A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
