Anthony Joshua repeated his controversial comments about being prepared to “kill” Jake Paul during a news conference in Miami on midweek.

His words were initially uttered on the previous day when the boxer was asked if he would show restraint against Paul, responding that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

Saturday's contest against the internet personality turned fighter has sparked criticism over safety concerns and the size difference between the two athletes.

Ex- world heavyweight champion The Gypsy King labeled Joshua a “disgrace” for his extreme comments.

But the 36-year-old fighter, defended his stance: “This is what I do, we fight. We have a license that permits extreme violence.

“I'm sure many people don't comprehend it but this is what my job is. I love what I do. The outcome, happens - as long as my hand is raised, that's what's crucial, with all due respect.”

He stated, “That's just the mentality we have to have as boxers. I'm unsure if other fighters think that way. Perhaps they're a bit more tame. The way my mind works. When you're in the squared circle, it's a risky thing. Anything can happen.”

“You wish your adversary exits the ring safely, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed knowing you just did your job. It was not personal.”

Paul's Incendiary Response

Jake Paul, a massive outsider in the heavyweight contest as a natural lighter fighter, was no less fiery in his response.

“This is a modern day combat sport,” Paul stated. “I'm prepared. I want his most powerful punches. I want there to be zero excuses when it's all over. Let's kill each other.”

Joshua will face Paul, 28, at Florida's arena in a bout many see as a major mismatch, with some arguing it should have been sanctioned as an exhibition bout.

The official fight will be fought over 8 three-minute rounds using regular 10oz gloves, with a specified maximum weight for Joshua.

Joshua Says He Was “Brought In to Rescue” Boxing

Despite the vulgar terminology used, Joshua claimed he has been “called in to save” the sport of boxing.

“They want me to put an end to the Jake Paul phenomenon and I understand it and that's why I have to bear boxing on my back in this bout,” he concluded.

The event also had more humorous moments, with Joshua smiling as his rival sang ‘London Bridge Is Falling Down’ to him.

The final staredown passed without incident, with Paul adopting a unusual posture before Joshua remained calm and playfully grabbed his necklace.

Paul & Joshua Deny Pre-Arranged Claims

The peculiar nature of this bout has led to questions about its legitimacy, including suggestions that he may be prohibited from scoring a knockout.

“There are no clauses in the agreement, AJ can confirm it. We're going to battle,” Paul insisted.

Joshua, wearing a expensive chain, humorously added, “The only thing in the contract that got my attention was the purse.”

He has stated on his platforms that the fight earnings will be extremely large.

Paul first gained fame as an online prankster, amassing a massive social media following.

He has not faced anyone of the former champion's calibre but maintained that his rival would take him seriously.
