Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his future after another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received a lot of backing from management,” Slot commented.
“It's important to change things and get a victory of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
The manager lamented recurring weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with outcomes like these.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
