The network's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Network Praise
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family go about their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
