UK Ready to Utilize Seized Russia's Holdings to Finance the Ukrainian Defense
The UK is ready to advance with using the total value of frozen Russia's assets to bolster Ukraine's war effort, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has declared.
In a collective announcement, the heads of state of the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany stated that this unified step would increase strain on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and persuade Russia to participate in talks.
They added that the initiative would be executed in close cooperation with the America.
United Kingdom restrictions have frozen over £25bn of Russia's funds since Russia began its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. However, up to this point, money provided to the Ukrainian government using Russia's funds had exclusively been sourced from gains and dividends accrued on them.
Sir Keir assured Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were aligned in their desire to drive progress toward using the complete amount of the frozen Moscow's national holdings to end the war.
He stated that additional measures over the next period would apply more pressure on Moscow.
This announcement follows EU leaders met in Copenhagen previously to discuss employing seized Russia's assets for a 140-billion-euro financial aid to Ukraine.
Recently, US President Donald Trump called on international partners to seize or utilize immobilized Russian holdings, as reported by reports.
The total of seized Russian assets in the EU is estimated to be approximately €211bn.
President Zelensky calls on Britain's Sir Keir Starmer to join the weapons procurement programme
Russia launched large-scale bombardments across Ukraine on recently, causing blackouts in large parts of the capital city, the city, and several other zones.
A pair of individuals were lost their lives and a minimum of 20 people were injured in the assault, the Ukrainian government reported.
In a update on social media following the incident, Zelensky wrote that the premeditated assault aimed at public and utility structures.
"What is required is not mere statements but decisive action - from the United States, Europe, and the Group of Seven - in providing defense mechanisms and enforcing sanctions," he stated.
"All penalty impositions undermines the Russian war effort," Zelensky noted, in a separate post.
Also on Friday, Zelensky stated to media outlets he would urge Sir Keir to enter the Purl program, under which Nato countries buy military equipment from the United States to provide to the Ukrainian forces.
While commending the United Kingdom's strong support for the Ukrainian government, he remarked it should demonstrate clearly that it would engage in the system, as well as apply further restrictions on Russia.
